If you are unfamiliar with the concept of The False 9’s La Murga Report, click here.
Our deepest apologies for the delay in publishing this week’s La Murga Report, but we needed to take a personal day to recover from the, uh, exuberance of Saturday night. Let’s just say that we all have a newfound respect for Hunter S. Thompson’s ability to turn in clean copy on a deadline. Now let’s get to the numbers!
What Songs Were Played, and How Many Times?
Random Notes: “Is This Love?” made its stadium debut in the first half Saturday night, although it’s been in the repertoire since at least the DC United game. We’re no music critic, but it certainly feels like a keeper.
What Songs Were Playing When Austin Scored?
Random Notes: Personally, we love it when songs which have been in the setlist from the beginning of 2021 get a little shine. And with all the mishegoss last year about “McKalla” being a cursed song, tallying another goal for it this season is a wonderful bonus.
What Songs Were Playing When Austin Conceded?
Random Notes: A second straight game where the opponent scored during “Verde Submarine,” which is a tad concerning. We’ll talk more about “Colors” in a minute.
Season Totals
Final Thoughts
At the top of the leaderboard, “McKalla” had another solid performance to launch it into the top five for the season. Meanwhile, “Colors” has been hard-done by its relative inutility — it’s only seen one goal conceded, but it’s only been played four times. As such, it’s now firmly in the cellar.
To date, there is still only one song that has seen both a goal scored and conceded: “Alright Alright Alright,” which is also the song that has been played the most.
There are still nine songs which have not seen either a goal scored or conceded. Of them, “Club de Cuervos” has been played the most (eighteen times). It definitely feels like a goal is coming for it though.
