I approached yesterday’s match with apprehension, not just at the worry of trying to keep my iPhone dry while sitting with the Verde Wall, but also the match itself. Burdened by knowing what the (Incredibly Incorrect) Chickens predicted I was more than a little concerned that this article would see a lot of movement for chants in the negative direction.
Turns out I was just as wrong as the pundits who praised LAFC in the pre-match program.
In what was the best performance of Austin FC’s season, they put on a display of teamwork and drive that LAFC were not able to answer until they’d already been hit for four goals. Needless to say, the Verde Wall had some of the best vibes this reporter has ever experienced and I am proud to say that my iPhone still works after the experience.

Random Thoughts: PEPAS!!! is the best of the new chants that have come into the section this season and it looks to be a fixture in the coming years as La Murga goes to it whenever they feel like the energy level starts to drop. The lopsided scoreline provided opportunities for some songs we don’t always hear, and of course the Diego free kick goal allowed us to do the kind of player specific chant the r/AustinFC posters love.

Random Thoughts: This song started before the fourth Austin goal and then came back around after the Alright, Alright, Alright and MVP chants ended. It’s the song that wishes it was Pepas and I hope that it gets embraced more in the future despite it’s performance this season.

Final Thoughts: This may be an unpopular opinion, but “Is This Love?” is one of my favorite songs and seeing it rocket up the chart brings me joy.
When this project started it was brought about by members of the Facebook group claiming that the McKalla chant was cursed, but with only four more home matches remaining in the 2022 schedule it’s clear that belief was unfounded. Also, have we heard the last performance of “Colors?” it certainly seems like it will ignanomously finish the season in dead last and will never return.
