As all of you are painfully aware, Austin FC has not played a match in 11 days when they…well, let’s just not remember what happened that day.
Instead of talking about that match, I wanted to do an update on The Compound, as our intrepid staff used the break in the schedule to catch up on other work, travel, and in some cases, zigged when others zagged.
I was one of the people who zigged, with everyone getting out and about I used this time to enjoy solitude, getting back to my roots.
This was my theme song for the 11 days, playing it almost non-stop on a loop (I can’t wait to see it atop my 2023 Spotify memories list) as I collated, copied, faxed, telegraphed, and also did a deep clean of my office. My most notable victory was discovering that the odd smell in my office was a the leftovers of a lovely Paella I had gotten two months ago and sadly forgot about behind a personalized Tifo I got from Texas Tifo Solutions that simply read “In this office we don’t respect the chickens.”
With Louis off visiting Rome (location of such timeless films as Mafia Mamma, Zeroes and Ones, and Fast X) I was tasked with taking care of the chickens. This was mostly me re-enacting a famous scene from the Jurassic Park franchise about how best to deal with dangerous animals.
Staying off the ground was my only hope to remain unpecked by the chickens so I deftly maneuvered above them to drop seed down.
The most important thing today is simply:
We here at The False 9 hope that all of them enjoyed their time off, hopefully in cooler climates than the current hellscape that is Austin weather. Now that the club is halfway through the season we hope the second half of this season can be like the first half of last season.
The one player who we got to see play actual matches over the break was Dani Pereira, who thanks to a Venezuelan tradition had to shave his head after his first appearance for the National Team.
Cleary when he went off to play for Venezuela he brought something back with him to Austin:
Unfortunately, with Austin FC back from a break we must deal with the cold hard facts of life coming back. The worst day of any vacation is the day after returning home.
The Prediction: Austin FC 1 – Exurb FC 2
