With Austin FC nearing their last regular game of the season, it was announced Josh Wolff would be serving a suspension for technical staff yellow card accumulation.
After receiving a tip from a credible Austin FC supporter who is working ACL Fest, our False Nine investigative journalists were alerted to a peculiar situation.
“I think Josh Wolff is playing ACL Fest instead of attending the game,” our source said on the condition of anonymity.
A quick look at Sunday’s ACL schedule right around the time of the game revealed an unnamed “special guest” was playing a set from 3:30-3:45 on the “Austin Kiddie Limits” stage. Our source sat in on sound check and was able to produce a name for the anonymous act.
“J. Dub ft. Verticality Vincent” he said. “Vincent is a hand puppet. He has his own solo and everything. It’s just 45 straight seconds of compliments about Austin FC’s head coach.”
Our source provided us with a photo from that sound check and after extensively reviewing the image in our office, we are 85% sure it’s him. Something is off, but it definitely looks like him.
The obvious question that remains: was this planned by Wolff all along? For that answer, we didn’t have to dig very deep.
“I overheard one of the promoters saying he’s had Josh locked in since the spring. The guy just told him U2 was headlining and coach signed on no questions asked.”
